Day 110 / Being a Woman in Financial Services

I went to a networking event after work today for women in the financial services industry. I’m pretty introverted, so for me to voluntarily attend the event was a surprising effort. I’ve always appreciated my career in financial services, but tonight’s meeting made me feel that much more grateful for it.

I enjoy helping people. And through my career, I am able to help people on so many levels. That is what is most rewarding about it. Tonight, I met several women who share the exact same feeling. They strive to help their clients protect their families and their assets and achieve their financial goals.

The gap between women and men in this industry is still pretty wide. So it’s inspiring to me to bear witness to the successful careers of female financial advisors. While my role is managerial, I was an advisor for a brief time and know full well how challenging it is to build a business as an advisor. And therefore, I have a tremendous appreciation for those who have maintained a successful practice – especially women. I’m honored and grateful just to work among them.

Day 101 / The Annual Party

The night before the last day of our operations manager conference, our annual awards party is held. It is always a huge bash and a great time.

It’s a time for all of us to come together and celebrate a year of hard work, and honor those who put forth an outstanding contribution to the firm. I’m proud to be associated with this group of dedicated and caring professionals. And I’m thankful to have celebrated another year with them.

Day 100 / An Evening with Work Friends

Donovon and I spent the evening with my work friends from Dallas who I typically only see at these annual conferences.

One of my friends reserved a sunset cruise off Johns Passe this evening. It was a fun little cruise. We got to see some dolphins and snap pics of the setting sun on the Gulf of Mexico. The scene was gorgeous.

After the cruise we all had dinner at a local hole-in-the-wall where the food was amazing and the company so enjoyable.

After dinner, we all met back at the hotel bar for some after dinner drinks and to watch Monday Night Football. My beloved Cowboys are playing and my girls from Dallas and I cheered them on. We’ve had a really fun night, and I’m thankful for spending time with my work friends.

Day 96 / Mini-Vacay with The Hubby

I was scheduled to be in St. Pete for meetings this week and asked my hubby to tag along and he said, “Sure”, so we’re here in St. Petersburg, FL for 6 days.

Tonight, we are dining at local pub and watching Thursday Night Football. The food and drinks are freaking awesome and we are having a good and relaxing time.

I’m so grateful for another little getaway with Donovon, even if I have work for part of it.

Day 82 / The UPS Guy

We’ve had the same UPS guy make deliveries to our office for years now.  His name is Mike.  What strikes me about Mike is that he’s always in a happy mood.  I don’t interact with him everyday.  Some days I just see him through my office.  But every time I see him, he’s always so cheerful.  There are days when things are tense and stressful in the office, yet he comes in with our packages and his bright, cherry attitude and eases the tension somehow.  I admire Mike’s ability to make delivering packages look like such a joy.  And I’m thankful for the cheerful delight he brings to our office, even if only for a moment, everyday.

Day 75 / My Morning Commute

I know. It’s probably a little strange to be thankful for a morning commute into work, but I really do appreciate my 40-minute drive all to myself. I listen to my favorite morning show. I pray. I listen to my iPhone playlist. It’s a relatively peaceful time of day for me as I prepare to face whatever workday challenges lie ahead. I enjoy my morning commute and am grateful for it.

Day 53 / Work

I had a pretty intense day at work. There were stressful moments, inspiring moments, and rewarding moments all with a high level of intensity. And through all of it, I found myself grateful for it. Some days are rough and some days are very gratifying. But I get to work with some incredible people and I appreciate all aspects of the job.

I’m thankful for the opportunity to teach, help others, and hopefully inspire.

Day 40 / Good Leadership

Today I got a call from a former mentor of mine and as we caught up, I thought about how fortunate I was to work with him and learn so much from him.  Our careers took us in different directions a few years back, and although we no longer work together, I continue to take what I learned from him and apply it today.

To me, a good leader inspires, motivates, directs, and guides.  I am blessed to have worked with great leaders in my career, all who have inspired, motivated, directed and guided me.  I’m so grateful for good leadership and all that I’ve learned and aspired to be from it.

Day 34 / Works of Art

The founder and former CEO of my employer company is an avid collector of art. The majority of his collection is on display at corporate headquarters.

I absolutely love walking the halls at headquarters. There’s art everywhere. I’ve yet to do an art tour. It’s on my list for my next trip. For now, I’m grateful for being able to enjoy works of art today. These are a couple of my favorite pieces:
