Day 252 / Engagement Party

Today we drove to Spring, Texas to attend the engagement party of one our long-time family friends. First of all, I love weddings and anything wedding-related. Secondly, at our age, weddings are very few and far between. Lastly, getting the opportunity to get together with family and friends for such a joyous occasion, it goes without saying that I was jumping-up-and-down-excited. 🙂

It turned out to be a lovely affair. The bonus being that our little family – Donovon, Alexa, Ava, and I – got to spend some nice quality time together. I’m so grateful for being surrounded by family and friends in celebration of young love!

Day 251 / Donovon’s Shrimp Bisque

I realize I post a lot about food, but I’m a little obsessed with food and grateful as a whole that I’m not hungry.  Further, I’m ridiculously fortnuate that my husband loves to cook and feed us.

Tonight, he made a shrimp bisque that blew. me. away.  It was really hard to stop at two bowls.  I continue to be amazed by Donovon’s mad cooking skills.  Tonight, I’m so grateful for his exquisite shrimp bisque.

Day 241 / Day Date at SXSW

Donovon and I typically avoid the crowds and chaos of SXSW, but today we ventured out to see our friend’s band Starbenders play.

We took the train downtown and explored the goings-on on 6th Street before heading to the show.  They played an awesome set and Donovon and I had a great time.

It was a fun little day date with my hubby, and I’m thankful for it.

Day 235 / Tonight’s Scene at the Bodine Household

Donovon is in the living room perfecting his latest Lego robot creation.

Alexa is the dining room giggling at something on her iPhone.

Ava is in her room singing “Let It Go” for the gazillionth time.

I sit on the couch taking a pause from reading my Kindle to soak it all in.  I giggle to myself.  I take a mental snapshot.  I cherish the moment and this household full of all the love and joy a person can stand.  I’m so grateful for this scene.  It just doesn’t get much better than this.

Day 230 / Last Minute Date Night with The Hubby

Alexa agreed to watch her little sister for the evening allowing Donovon and I to get out for date night.  So we took in a movie at Flix Brewhouse.

I let Donovon choose the movie and he chose Chappie.  I had very low expectations going in, but man, was I pleasantly surprised. It was highly entertaining and I loved it!

Moreso, I loved spending the evening with my hubby and am so grateful for a last minute date night.

Day 225 / Family Time

My mom and brother came into town this weekend for my niece Lily’s 8th birthday.  This morning we all – my sister’s family, my mom and brother, his girlfriend, and my family – met up for brunch before they headed back to Houston.  As is typical of these traditonal Sunday brunches, it was good times and lots and lots of love.  I always leave feeling grateful for my family and the time I get to spend with all of them.

The weather was real crappy all day, so Donovon, the girls, and I spent the rest of the day in our living room watching movies.  I bathed in the bliss of the uninterrupted time with all four of us in one room.   I couldn’t have been happier on such a cold and rainy day.

I spent the entire day with family and I’m grateful for every minute of it.

Day 217 / Double Date Night

February is a month of birthdays for our family and tonight we celebrated yet another – Donovon’s cousin Shawn’s 40th. Fortunately, Alexa agreed to babysit our kids, so Shawn, his wife Nicole, Donovon and I went out for a sushi dinner. I can’t even remember the last time the four of us went out.

It was such a lovely evening. We went to Tomodachi Sushi where we enjoyed a neighborhood restaurant atmosphere and delicious food. It was such a nice night and I’m so thankful for our double date!

Day 216 / Game Night with the Hubby

Donovon is quite obsessed with the Star Wars X-Wing Miniatures Game. The problem is it’s a 2-player game and he often has difficulty finding someone to play him. So when I start feeling bad that he hasn’t played in a while for lack of an opponent (or because I’ll want to call in a chit soon), I will begrudgingly offer to play a round.

He, in turn, gets all giddy and excited as he sets up the elaborate “game board” – a vinyl map on which he had a picture of the galaxy printed (the early stage of his obsession). Since, I’m very competitive in nature and so is he for that matter, we do have fun being pitted against each other – Rebels vs. The Empire – strategically trying to destroy each other’s squad.

It had been close to a year since I’ve actually played him. I couldn’t believe it had been that long. So tonight while he was diligently organizing the game cards, I offered to play a round with him. He was very excited and before I knew it he was already building his squad.

Alexa was out for the evening, so after putting Ava to bed, we settled in for our game. I was delighted in Donovon’s excitement over my willingness to play. And I enjoyed his enthusiasm as he watched me strategize then counter each of my maneuvers. I was a bit rusty which I’ll gladly blame for my loss.

Although I cannot match his enthusiasm for the game, I’m grateful for the quality time with my hubby.
