Day 117 / An Evening with My Girls

I took Alexa and Ava shopping tonight and then we picked up dinner. I so much enjoy spending time with them together. They are so full of life, personality, and creativity. As they continue to grow older right before my eyes, I cherish these precious moments with them. I’m so grateful for the time I get to spend with them, the memories we create, and that they fill me with so much love and joy.

Day 112 / Cuddling with My Baby Girl

I love when Ava gets all cuddly, especially on Saturday mornings when we’re still in our PJs. She’ll announce “I’m going to cuddle with Mama.” Then she’ll go upstairs and get her “soft blankie”, climb up beside me on the couch with her blankie, and cuddle up next to me. It’s the sweetest thing. I’m so grateful for these moments.

Day 109 / Ava’s Day Care

I’m sure many working moms can agree that leaving your child or children for ten or more hours a day to go to work is a guilt-riddling, anxiety-inducing necessity.

When Alexa was in day care, she cried almost every day. I can’t tell you how many times I cried on my way to work after just having left her sobbing at the classroom door and calling “Mommy”. It was brutal. I almost want to cry just thinking about it now.

Fast forward to about eighteen years later, Ava’s been in day care since she was six weeks old, and she has always loved it. In the past four years, she’s cried just a few times when being dropped off. In fact, I’ve had far more separation anxiety than she ever has.

Ava has been at her current day care since she was just a little over a year old, and she loves it. The staff is so warm and nurturing. Everyone there knows her. And true to her character, Ava walks around like she owns the place. I’ve never felt so much confidence and security in my child’s care. I’m so grateful for it.

Day 89 / Sister Time

Being 14 years apart, Alexa and Ava have this very adorably fascinating sisterly dynamic. There’s a lot of competition for attention, but when there isn’t, and it’s just the two if them, their conversations are unbearably cute. I can’t help but grin from ear to ear and sometimes chuckle to myself when I listen to them. I’m so thankful for their relationship, the time they get to spend together, and how it warms my heart.

Day 84 / Family Reunion

I learned the importance of family very early in life and more so later on – Our time with our family might be very limited, so every precious moment together counts. My family is a gift – my parents, my grandparents, my siblings, my husband, my in-laws, my aunts, uncles, cousins, my nieces and nephews, and my children. I have family spread throughout this county and this world and I thank God for all of them. Every. Day.

We spent the weekend in Hot Springs, Arkansas for Donovon’s family reunion. It had been almost 20 years since Donovon and I went to the last reunion for the “May” side of the family. It was a weekend of catching up, sharing memories, lots of laughter and love. The venue was Knollwood Cabins on Hamilton Lake where the descendants of the May family occupied almost every cabin.

Today, the children splashed around in the lake while adults talked lakeside and looked through old photos. It was picturesque. It was a great time. It was family.

I’m thankful for being a part of the 2014 May Family Reunion, and for sharing memories as well as creating new ones.

Day 71 / Train Ride with Friends

Our friends, Anne and Scott came through town this weekend to take their son to ride Thomas the Train. We joined them today in Burnet to take Ava on her first train ride.

Now, for all the fanfare over this train ride, the ride only lasted 25 minutes. However, Ava loved every minute of it. I’m grateful for getting to spend time with our friends and seeing all the joy in My Little Princess Ava’s face on her first train ride.

Day 55 / Spending Time with My Sister and Our Little Princesses

Tonight Ava and I went to my sister’s house to visit her and her girls.  As I’ve said, I’m always grateful to spend time with family.  These Little Princesses were in full effect tonight.  Each of their personalities are so entertaining and adorable, and as I held Coralyse, listened to Lily and Evangeline arguing, helped Abigael with her dinner, and admired Ava in her princess gown,  I just soaked it all in.  They are our legacy, the fruit of so much love and joy.

I also enjoyed catching up with My Toot.  We are both missing Daddy and needed some time to share that and feel connected to him through each other.

I’m grateful for spending this Friday night surrounded by my sister and all our Little Princesses.
