We took a road trip today to Hot Springs, Arkansas. Donovon’s parents rented a van and we made it through our 7-hr journey with 9 passengers, including a 2-yr-old and 4-yr-old, with great ease. Thank goodness for easy road trips!

Day 82 / The UPS Guy
We’ve had the same UPS guy make deliveries to our office for years now. His name is Mike. What strikes me about Mike is that he’s always in a happy mood. I don’t interact with him everyday. Some days I just see him through my office. But every time I see him, he’s always so cheerful. There are days when things are tense and stressful in the office, yet he comes in with our packages and his bright, cherry attitude and eases the tension somehow. I admire Mike’s ability to make delivering packages look like such a joy. And I’m thankful for the cheerful delight he brings to our office, even if only for a moment, everyday.
Day 81 / Another Day
Today I’m thankful for another day. Another day of life. Another day with family. Another day of work. Another day with laughter. Another day to think. Another day to love. Another day to be loved. Another day of sunshine. Another day with faith. Another day with food. Another day with shelter. Another day of promise. Another day of memories. Another day of hope.
Day 80 / P. Terry’s
Day 79 / On the Mend
I’ve had this lingering cold since Tuesday of last week. As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I first thought it was a cold, then thought it was just allergies, then realized it was a full-blown cold from hell. It got a little worse after going to ACL on Saturday and I ended up with laryngitis. I haven’t had my voice for 2 days.
I went to see my doctor this morning to confirm that I don’t need to be on antibiotics. She did confirm that I didn’t and that it should run its course in a few day. Tonight I my voice is finally coming back and I already feel much better. So thankful to be on the mend.
Day 78 / Eminem @ ACL
It was in the year 2000 when I first heard Eminem. We were living in Dallas at the time. As I was driving into work one morning, I flipped through radio stations and stopped when I heard “The Real Slim Shady”. I was cracking up at the lyrics and thought to myself, This guy’s hysterical. Who the hell is he?? And thus began my infatuation/obsession with Slim Shady/Marshall Mathers/Eminem.
Yes, some of his lyrics, especially in earlier tracks, are disturbing, offensive, and unsettling; but I think that like any artist, he’s expressing himself. I find him brilliant, ridiculously funny, and remarkably intense. It’s quite a ride listening to his music, but I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. So, when I first learned he was going to perform at ACL this year, I almost jumped out of my skin.
Last night, my friend Rose, her daughter Katy, Alexa, and I finally got to see Eminem live. As ACL is an outdoor completely open venue, we were on a mission to get as close to the front of the stage as possible. In an effort to do so, we stood amongst a sea of people for 3 hours, and then nearly suffocated as the crowd pushed, shoved, and squeezed its way toward the front at the end of the set before his. I thought I was going to pass out at one point, but my resolve kicked in and the crowd settled down and we made it pretty damn close – just five people back from front stage.
I can’t even begin to describe my hysteria throughout his entire set. I was entranced. He put on a very entertaining show mixing both old and new songs. It was so much fun and the best part was being there with Rose, Katy, and Alexa. Today, my feet hurt and my voice is completely gone, but it was all so incredibly worth it, and I’m so very grateful for the whole experience.
Day 77 / Getting Josephine Back
Our 12-year-old Jack Russell Terrier, Josephine – or Jo, as we like to call her – has a penchant for escaping from the house or backyard and running away. She’s been found and taken to the Austin Animal Shelter several times now.
Yesterday, she dug a hole under the fence in the backyard, escaped, and ran. Alexa searched the neighborhood for her to no avail. We were so worried about her since she’s a lot older now. Luckily, Donovon searched the Austin Animal Center website and found her. Alexa picked her up this morning. Yay!! So thankful Jo is back!!
Day 76 / Hanging Out with My Big Girl at ACL
Day 75 / My Morning Commute
I know. It’s probably a little strange to be thankful for a morning commute into work, but I really do appreciate my 40-minute drive all to myself. I listen to my favorite morning show. I pray. I listen to my iPhone playlist. It’s a relatively peaceful time of day for me as I prepare to face whatever workday challenges lie ahead. I enjoy my morning commute and am grateful for it.
Day 74 / Allegra-D
I’ve been miserable for 2 days thinking I was coming down with a cold. I’m thinking now it’s really bad allergies – the curse of living in Central Texas. Anyway, I can’t be grateful enough for my Allegra-D tonight. I finally feel somewhat closer to human.
